Hi ,
This week at The Ferret, we've been taking a look at a minister's meeting.
In August 2024, Scottish Government external affairs minister Angus Robertson met with Daniela Grudsky Ekstein, Israel’s deputy ambassador to the UK.
This was highly controversial as it came as Israel's bombardment of Gaza continued following the 7 October attack by Hamas.
At the time, Robertson apologised and said he met with Grudsky to express his government’s “clear and unwavering” calls for a ceasefire.
The Ferret wanted to find out more details about the meeting, so we submitted a freedom of information request asking for relevant correspondence.
This request was denied. So we appealed to the information commissioner, who deals with disputes over whether information should be released to the public.
Read on to find out why the Scottish Government didn't want to give us the information...

Robertson, Scotland’s external affairs secretary, apologised after being criticised over a meeting he had last year with Daniela Grudsky Ekstein, Israel’s deputy ambassador to the UK.
Critics accused Robertson of trying to normalise relations with Israel and called for him to be suspended. |
